A sickle cell anemia patient, Chinenye Akanmu, aged 40, has been diagnosed of end-stage kidney failure and needs the help of Nigerians to raise funds for her transplant.

Akanmu, who is prepped to have a kidney transplant at the Zenith Medical and Kidney Centre in Abuja, needs N8 million for the process. According to a member of her family, Mrs. Catherine Adebiaye, Akanmu’s case got worse in 2014 during her pregnancy when the doctor discovered that she could not produce red cells independently.

We have exhausted all our resources in providing care and dialysis for her. The hospital said the ultimate treatment for her is kidney transplant, which will cost N8 million. But currently, all funds have been exhausted on the weekly dialysis and in between crises, which she has been battling.

It all started during her pregnancy in 2014 with fever and anemia (low blood). We thought it was one of those her crisis periods only for it to persist after delivery. After a series of tests, she was placed on erythropoietin injection weekly.

Donations can be sent to First Bank: 3087242877, Akanmu Chinenye.
